The Stellenbosch region is home to some of the finest wines in the world (of which any explorer should have ample supply) and includes the two tourist-friendly towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, is famous for its beautiful Cape Dutch buildings and oak-lined streets. The University of Stellenbosch ensures the bustling presence of students everywhere. Besides the nightlife, it also offers a broad variety of restaurants, excellent accommodation and interesting gift shops (such as Oom Samie's shop). Activities include tours of the town's interesting architecture and, of course, wine tours! To the nature lovers, Stellenbosch offers a beautiful botanical garden and the nearby Jonkershoek Nature Reserve with numerous hiking and mountain bike trails. To the east of Stellenbosch lies Franschhoek. This quaint town is a tourist haven, with plenty of restaurants, museums, galleries and curio shops.
