The Bitterfontein (bitter spring) area includes the three agricultural centres of Bitterfontein, Nuwerus and Rietpoort. The fact that the town Bitterfontein is regarded as the capitol of the area says a lot about the area. Suffice to say that Bitterfontein has a hotel, Nuwerus has a church and Rietpoort has a mission station. During spring the area comes alive with wild flowers everywhere. A spectacle not to miss.
