In terms of tourist attractions in the North Western province, the most popular is Sun City, a luxurious resort that offers casinos, golf courses and a multitude of other entertainment facilities of fantastic proportions. The resort is also surrounded by Pilansberg, one of the country’s top nature reserves. Pilansberg is set in a range of extinct volcanoes and is home to many elephants and giraffes (amongst other game). If you are looking for something with a bit more kick, visit Zeerust during the annual mampoer (a potent home made liquor brewed from various fruits) festival. Another feature of this province is the Madikwe Game Reserve in the Rustenburg district. This wildlife theatre, situated against the Botswana border, just three and a half hours' drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, is now one of South Africa's prime safari destinations. Home to 66 large mammal species including the Top Ten Game and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species. It is one of South Africa's largest game reserves. Madikwe is Malaria free."
