D E S C R I P T I O N

Driving along the N1 through the Laingsburg region, it is difficult to imagine that the arid hills receive any rain, let alone enough to cause one of the most devastating floods in South African history when, one hundred years after the town was founded, the flood of 1981 destroyed most of the town. The town has since been rebuilt and little evidence of the disaster remains. For those interested in archaeology, the Anysberg hills to the south west of the town is worth exploring. Here you might find some well preserved Bushmen paintings. But please be careful not to step on any sleeping snakes. They can become very grumpy when disturbed.
